This was a rainy day kitchen experiment that went sooooo RIGHT. We wanted to come up with a seriously potent and healing elixir that would boost energy levels and nourish the body on a deep level with superfood nutrition. This recipe has a definite hot chocolate twist, but it isn't overtly sweet. Our Rawmio Drinking Hot Chocolate Mix is made from real cacao beans and contains 70% cacao solids. We use only coconut sugar to sweeten- so the emphasis is all on the robust depth of flavor from the cacao, with just enough sweetness to balance any bitter. While raw cacao is a superfood in and of itself with exceptionally high levels of flavonols, and minerals magnesium, calcium, sulphur and zinc, we infused this elixir recipe with several other superfoods as well: wild maqui berry for a burst of anti-aging vitamin C and antioxidants, Veggimins Maca Matrix to boost energy, and Veggimins Amazing Algae for a well rounded array of vitamins and trace minerals. The base is brewed chaga tea, made from medicinal chaga mushrooms. We used tea bags but you can brew any chaga tea that you wish. Chaga offers many health benefits which range from strengthening immunity, to anti-cancer and antioxidant effects. Enjoy! 

The Recipe

Medicinal Superfood Cacao Elixir with Veggimins Superfoods 

Serves 1

8 oz Chaga Tea, brewed dark (we used 2 tea bags)
4 oz unsweetened almond milk - preferably raw and homemade 
1 tbs coconut creme (the solid part of coconut milk) or sub in Dastony whole coconut butter
1/4 tsp maqui berry powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract - or 1/4 tsp vanilla bean
Pinch pink Himalayan salt
Optional: dash of cayenne for a spicy Mayan twise
 
1. Brew your chaga tea using a pot on the stove.
2. Once thoroughly steeped, yet still hot, add to a blender with Rawmio Drinking Chocolate Mix and blend until smooth.
3. Add remaining ingredients to your blender and incorporate - blending until smooth again.
4. Add back to pot on stove - and re-heat to desired temperature - or enjoy as is.
